Our student-led restaurant, BR6 and Bakehouse has won a series of awards, by training in our industry-standard kitchens and working in our award-winning restaurant, you will get the opportunity not only to develop your practical skills but also to understand how a commercial restaurant is run.

Culinary Skills - Certificate

This two-day-a-week course is ideal for individuals seeking to launch their careers in this dynamic industry. Designed for beginners, the course offers a comprehensive introduction to food and beverage service, covering all the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed. You'll learn the fundamentals of the industry, from customer service to food safety, while developing the key skills employers seek in future staff. Whether you’re aiming for an apprenticeship, further training, or immediate employment, this course will give you the foundation to thrive and progress in the world of hospitality. If you aspire to become a pastry chef, this qualification is the perfect choice for you. Focusing on the essential skills needed in patisserie and confectionery, it’s ideal for aspiring patissiers, pastry cooks, and other catering professionals. This course is also a great starting point for anyone passionate about baking and eager to refine their skills to a professional standard. You’ll gain hands-on experience through a variety of practical activities in our training kitchens on this one day a week course. The hot and cold desserts, breads, and cakes you create will be showcased and sold in our student-led BR6 Bakehouse and Restaurant.

This 1 or 2 days a week course depending on campus location, is ideal if you already have some basic skills and experience as a chef, particularly from a role where you’ve worked under supervision. It’s perfect for those looking to earn a formal qualification and enhance their skills to take on a more senior position. Building on the foundation provided by the Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Culinary Skills, this course allows you to further develop practical skills, knowledge, and experience. It prepares you for advanced qualifications or a successful career in the Hospitality Industry.
